We completely understand that dogs and people need access to secure, private exercise areas.  Having a dog who struggles with outside life can be stressful for both the dog and the guardian.  "It's ok my dog is friendly" people simply don't seem to understand how anxious some reactive dog get when approached by "stranger danger".  Stress hormones build up and it can often be a three day recovery period after a quick local walk around Cosmeston Lakes.  Training classes, socialisation, desensitisation, counter conditioning, enrichment have all helped us to understand and manage her stress levels but quiet, stress free exercise is so essential for her continued well being (and ours).  We truly hope your dog can benefit from having a safe and especially designed enclosed secure area to relax and do what "normal" dogs do when out and about, like having some care free off lead time, muzzle-free playing with a favourite toy, sniffing the environment and mooching about with friends.

Everything you and your dog needs to thrive as a team

The fields are designed to offer both peace of mind and pure tail-wagging joy!

Total Enclosure & Safety

The field perimeters feature secure, high deer stock fencing and gates (1.85m) with buried rabbit skirt to hopefully keep escape artists safe inside the fields throughout their session.  The fencing has been screened for privacy where necessary and new hedgerow and trees have been planted for further future privacy.  You have access to book two separately gated fields:

"Dasherton"  - the lower larger field designed for more energetic dogs who love to dash around.

"Snifferton" - the upper smaller field designed to be more sensory for dogs who love to amble and sniff.

The park is officially within the Lavernock countryside green wedge offering some fantastic open countryside views above the fencing.  

Accessible Airlock Parking System

Enter the park from Lavernock Road, on left if coming from Sully/Barry or right if coming from Penarth/Cardiff - look out for the high wooden ranch style fencing at the park entrance.  Check the previous occupant has left (the field sign should show "vacant" and the padlock should be on the outside of the gate). Unlock, open and secure gate to drive inside your individual field's parking area.  The gate padlock code will be automatically sent to you two hours prior to your booking slot time is due or on receipt of booking confirmation if within two hours.  Don't forget to lock your gate with the padlock on the inside and set the field gate sign to "occupied".  Please leave on time and always re-padlock the gate on the way out and return the sign to "vacant".  Vehicles may not always be visible as the park is pedestrian accessible and supported by the Cardiff Bus Route 94, and Adventure Travel Route 88. 

Enrichment & Sensory 

Keep minds and bodies active with natural sensory areas, ramps, tunnels, sand digging areas, tugsie, zoomie zones, perches, podiums, scent walls, paddling pools, shelters and dedicated enrichment equipment designed for dogs of all ages and fitness levels.  Please keep things fun, safe and force free for your dog. You may need to build confidence gradually with the equipment - feel free to ask on our socials if you need help.

Private Hire

Book a field exclusively for yourself or share costs with some furiends, the price is still £11 per 50 minutes for up to 2 dogs with a 50p surcharge per extra dog.  So a pawparty of 7 dogs only costs £13.50.  If you wish to book out the entire park (Dasherton, Snifferton and Fido's Field), please send a message to woof@countrybarks.com with your requirements.

Frequently asked questions

How does the airlock parking gate work?

Open the relevant field gate using the padlock with the code provided, secure the gate open before entering, ensure you close and padlock your gate securely behind you (so noone can access) and only then let your dogs out into the inner fields. This prevents any escape attempts. Please change the field status sign to "Occupied" when you arrive and "Vacant" when you leave and always check the last person has left before attempting to get in. Do not arrive early and presume the field is empty if no vehicle is parked in the carpark as field checks are random and pedestrians also use the fields.

What are the individual field hire rates?

Standard field hire starts at £11 per 50 minutes for up to 2 dogs. If you are a dog business professional or have more than 2 dogs there is a 50p surcharge per extra dog.  Snifferton Field allows up to 3 dogs.  Dasherton Field allows up to 7 dogs.  

How many dogs in total can I bring?

The standard field booking allows up to 2 dogs per field. There is a 50p surcharge per extra dog. Snifferton Field is smaller and allows up to 3 dogs and Dasherton Field is larger and allows up to 7 dogs.   

Can I come by bike, bus or walk?

We have provided a safe waiting area especially for people on foot and using sustainable transport. Please try not to arrive early but if you do, remain in the specified waiting area and do not approach the field perimeter fencing or carpark gates in case there is a reactive or anxious dog nearby.  Please then access the park through the airlock gate when your session is due.  It is absolutely essential that you padlock the gate correctly, leave on time and display the "Occupied" sign on the gate in case the next person incorrectly presumes the field is empty if they don't see a vehicle in the car park. 

Are children allowed?

Children under the age of 16 are not allowed to attend the park without a responsible adult, but of course they are warmly welcomed. Please note the enrichment equipment is designed for dogs though!

Is the park accessible for wheel chairs and pushchairs?

The carparks are chair friendly and we have extended wide accessibility paths to each shelter in both fields and hope to extend further easier accessibility in the future.  Please watch out for any pot holes made by any diggers and report if any need filling. 

When should we arrive for our session?

Your booking slot lasts 50 minutes, NOT an hour. Dasherton Field opens at 8am so entry is on the hour and Snifferton Field opens at 8.30am to help avoid human and dog clashes. The half hour staggered field opening times and 10 minute gap between bookings allows for anxious and reactive dogs to have a stress free and private entrance/exit for their session.  Please arrive as close to your booking start time as possible and remain in the waiting area until your start time begins. Observe and use the "Occupied/Vacant" sign on the field gate to let others know you have arrived and left and be mindful of others, especially reactive dogs, if arriving late or leaving early.

What are the rules regarding dog waste?

We ask all visitors to pick up after their dogs. Waste bags and clearly marked disposal bins are placed at convenient locations around the park. If you see a poop pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck! Please take any other rubbish home with you.

Are fresh water and shelter provided?

Yes, we have fresh drinking water stations, rain water collection butts, a dog washing area, paddling areas in hot weather and covered rest areas for dogs and their guardians.  We have planted trees for more future shade.

When do you open and close?

Dasherton Field (up to 7 dogs)

April - Sep 8am - 8pm (last slot start time at 7pm)

Oct - Mar   8am - 6pm (last slot start time at 5pm)

Snifferton Field (up to 3 dogs)

April - Sep 8.30am - 7.30pm (last slot start time at 6.30pm)

Oct - Mar   8am - 5.30pm (last slot start time at 4.30pm)

We do regular daily checks and also use the park for our own personal canine coaching.

Is Fido's Field available for hire?

Currently, Fido's field is a members only space for "dogs with jobs"  and trainers and professionals.  If your dog needs a new outlet and you fancy giving dog sports a try, for exampe, Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Hoopers, Tracking, Parkour, Flyball, Luring, Scentwork, Scent Hurdles, Mantrailing, Dock Diving (summer only), keep an eye on the webpage and socials for any upcoming dog training workshops or taster sessions taking place at Fido's Field. We aim to collaborate with some of the best dog trainers and coaches around the country to share the love and benefits of fun training and teamwork.
